Ya Ya Sisters 2010
(BethAnn Arko, Rebecca Arko, Jennifer Bench, Amy Emel and Janie Weed)
60 miles… 3 days… 5 women… and $11,500!
Why we walk!
BethAnn, Amy, and Jennifer are the Harvey Sisters. Our mother, Alice Harvey, was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1976 when she was the tender age of 36. She fought a courageous battle, with the miracles of “modern” medicine and lots of faith and prayer, she was cancer free for almost 25 years. In 2000 the nasty monster came back, with a vengeance, and we lost her at the
young age of 60. Mother of four, grandmother of nine, sister, and friend… What an amazing and courageous woman she was… we walk to honor her.
Janie Weed is Jennifer’s sister-in-law. Janie and Jennifer lost their sister, Laura, to breast cancer at the age of 33. This brave young mother, sister and daughter left behind two young children… we walk to honor her.
Rebecca is BethAnn’s 16 year old daughter and she is walking along with the rest of our team so that others won’t have to! Breast cancer is not a discriminator of age, and high school students have been struck by breast cancer.
Each of our lives have been tragically touched by the monster known as breast
cancer. We have also been able to celebrate many victories over the monster too. We walk to honor our family… your family… our friends and others that have been able to conquer this monster. We want to make a difference in the lives of others.
This is Janie’s 5th walk… Beth and Jenn are embarking on their 4th walk… 2010 is Amy’s first walk… and this is the first year that Rebecca has been eligible to walk.
Our motto is: “I would walk 10,000 miles just to see her again!”
All proceeds from Project Flamingo will help the Ya Ya Sisters raise their donation goal
